How verification works
What does the Verified badge mean?
When you see the Verified badge on a Spotu profile, it means we've checked that person's details and their connection to the venue, business or agency they say they represent.
How do we verify people?
We use a few different checks, depending on what the person is able to provide:
- Email check: we confirm they control the email address they signed up with.
- Professional profile: where someone has a work email address, we ask for a link to their LinkedIn profile and check it matches their details.
- Extra details: if someone signs up with a personal email address, or doesn't have a LinkedIn profile, we ask for other information instead, such as a business website, social media page, business phone number, or Companies House number. We review these by hand.
Both routes lead to the same badge.
What the badge doesn't mean
Verification is a check, not a guarantee. It's based on the information people give us and the checks we're able to make. We can't guarantee that any individual is who they say they are, or that a booking, offer or opportunity will go ahead as described. Please use your own judgement.
Tips for staying safe
- Be cautious if someone asks you to pay money upfront, or to move the conversation off Spotu very quickly.
- Check the venue or business independently, for example by looking up their website or contacting them directly.
- Don't share personal or financial details until you're confident in who you're dealing with.
- If something doesn't feel right, use the Report button on their profile.
How long does verification last?
Verification lasts 12 months. After that we ask people to confirm their details again, so the badge stays up to date. We may also remove a badge at any time if we have concerns about an account.
Something wrong?
If you think a verified profile is not genuine, please report it using the Report button, or contact us at support@spotu.co.uk.
